Gameday Leggings

After the 80s, I honestly didn’t think I would see leggings on anyone other than toddlers and pre-teens. Granted in the 80s I mainly wore black leggings, and some were actually stirrup pants. Complete with Duran Duran hair and glam-emo makeup.

The 90s  brought on  baggy denim and Doc Martens and then somehow fashion ventured into the other extreme with skinny jeans the following decade. Apparently, one day someone asked why should toddlers and pre-teens have all the fun of comfy, stretchy leggings? And there was no turning back.

Suddenly leggings became the choice of women in my office, under flowy tunics, long sweaters or short dresses. It appealed to my 80s sensibilities but I didn’t give in to the trend at first, as comfortable as it looked. It was too girly for this tomboy at heart.

Leggings finally won me over one winter when the temperature dropped in Phoenix. I realized I could wear them the way I wore long-johns when I lived in Washington and my then thicker blood only gave in to the cold when the temps dropped below freezing. As an Arizona resident now, 70° requires layers.

But come Spring and Summer, winter leggings were way too heavy. Enter Gameday Leggings. They sent me a pair of Haught Legs to try out and I was sold as soon as I pulled them on. They were so soft and silky. I am a simple black leggings girl so I was a little leery of the black and red swirling design, but they looked great once paired with a black top.

Gameday Leggings was founded when the owners couldn’t find tiger stripe leggings to wear to root for their team. When I read their story I wondered if I received black and red ones to try because the major sports teams here in Arizona have red and black in their colors. I may live here, but my heart will always be in Washington. I may have to search their website for blue and green leggings for my Seahawks. However, if I ever watch a Cardinals or Diamondbacks game NOT against my Seahawks or Mariners, I am ready!

What I love about the Haught Legs red and black design, is its versatility.  I can pair it with a long black and red tank top for workouts, a simple red tshirt to lounge around in or a flowy black tunic and flats to roam around. They are so lightweight and comfortable, they’re my go-to lazy wear around the house. But I also know when the temperature dips in the winter, they will keep me warm, especially layered under my jeans, maxi skirts or even snow pants whenever we head up to Flagstaff.
