User Feedback on Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball
Luke Duran, Art Director for a State Government Wildlife Agency Outdoors Magazine
“Out-of-the box, Kensington’s latest wireless trackball model delivers solid performance and provides a familiar and trusted feel. I have come to rely on the Expert Mouse wired trackball on all of my design workstations. I’ve always been impressed with how much control and access is offered in such a compact product and am pleased that the new Expert Mouse wireless model is based on this excellent and dependable design. With four programmable, application-specific buttons, I have developed specific workflows and functionality that effortlessly shifts as I move through my graphic design apps. The buttons are easy to access with my fingertips and thumb, and they click in a solid and satisfactory way. The scrolling ring that wraps around the trackball is a great navigation tool, and one of the best innovations to Kensington trackball products ever. It’s a wonderful feature that I really miss when I’m not using a trackball.”
Greg Damm, Head of User Experience for a Software Development Solutions Company
“I believe trackball mice deliver the greatest precision of data input on the market, particularly for those users who need to navigate especially large monitor displays and/or multiple monitors. My experience with the new Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball from Kensington has been great. The wireless feature really cleans up your desktop, and I had zero connectivity issues, which is huge. I think the default settings on the customization software are pretty solid, but there’s always room for tweaking – how fast or slow to accelerate upon reaching a destination for example, as well as keyboard shortcuts. The trackball’s scroll ring, which replaces the traditional scroll wheel on a mouse, is an awesome concept that makes for effortless and convenient up and down scrolling. Overall I’m very happy with the trackball, especially the accuracy and speed.”
Ryan Sanchez, Scoring Engineer/Music Producer
“I’ve used Kensington trackballs for years, as have all my peers. I was a Logitech user, but once I was introduced to Kensington’s trackball, I never looked back. In my work, I’m recording, mixing, and editing 12 hours a day at a computer. Kensington’s trackball allows me to automate many editing strokes with one touch, which can save me 10 to 15 percent in productivity. It also eliminates wear and tear on the wrists due to the trackball design. I recently obtained the Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball and love the fact that it’s untethered, giving me more flexibility at the computer. For me, Kensington trackballs are the de facto standard for the music business.”
The use of trackballs in both home and office-based computing environments is growing in popularity. Many users find the repetitive clicking and dragging motions required to use a traditional mouse to be ergonomically problematic. A 2015 Kensington survey revealed that users switch from a traditional mouse to a trackball primarily because trackballs deliver greater speed and accuracy, offer better ergonomics, and are more efficient in small or tight workspaces. The survey also revealed that wireless connectivity was the most requested feature users would like to have in Kensington trackballs.
The new Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball joins the company’s family of trackballs that deliver exceptional comfort and ease-of-use, setting the industry standard for more than 20 years. A giant-size Kensington trackball was featured in a “Walk Through Computer” exhibit held in Boston, 1990-1999. The giant exhibit featured an authentic-looking, two-story working model of a desktop computer enlarged to 50 times its normal size. The purpose of the exhibit was to show the anatomy of a computer and to explain how the various parts worked and communicated with each other.
