Do Han Solo And Finn Share A Common History?

With news this week of over 2,500 actors having been tested to play the younger version of Han Solo in an upcoming movie, my thoughts went to the pending release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which as I type this is two weeks from making it’s much anticipated premiere.

I do not think it is much of a secret that John Boyega’s character of Finn is a Stormtrooper on the run. The trailers and much of the pre-release news has focused on this character and the trailers and some images have him working alongside Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
Why would the normally aloof and cautious Solo be so trusting of Finn, well aside from a few rumored connections we will not delve into here, it may be the fact that Solo sees Finn as a kindred spirit.
Growing up we were told in the pre-internet days that Han Solo had been a promising officer who attended the Imperial Academy. He saw Wookies being abused and refused an order to flay one. This caused him to turn on his superiors, free the Wookies, and flee. This action is what caused Chewbacca to give a “Life Debt” to Han that he and his family would be protected, and hence why Chewbacca is always at his side no matter what.

The fact that Both Han and Finn saw the Empire/First Order for what it really was and decided to leave, shows a common thread in my opinion which helps form a bond between the two heroes of different generations, which I look forward to seeing developed further.
