Battleborn, Battlecry, And Overwatch Look To Ring In A New Era Of Team Based Shooters, But Is It Too Much Too Soon?

Recently 2K games announced Battelborn, a team based shooter that would be done with Gearbox who has successfully teamed with the company on the first two Borderlands games. While it does look like a very fun game, I had to pause for a moment as I saw some similarities to the pending Battlecry by Bethesda and Overwatch by Blizzard.

All three games are team based combat games though I would hesitate to call Battlecry a shooter as it exists in a universe where gunpowder has not been invented, so as such arrows and bladed weapons are the way to go.

As a person who fondly remembers the first two Team Fortress games it seems as if companies are jumping on the team based shooter bandwagon and have attempted to create a revival for the genre. The mode was often part of a game’s online component but now it seems as if the push is to create this experience as the core part of gaming.

While the genre is not new by any sense of the imagination, it does seem a bit unusual to me that three high-profile companies would create games in this genre at this time. It will be interesting to see how close to one another the games are in terms of gameplay and release dates, but for now, fans can speculate the pros and cons of each game while others can look forward to the experiences they will offer upon release.

I have played Battlecry and found it to be a very fast and enjoyable gaming experience and the rep that played Overwatch at PAX East loved it as well

I am looking forward to seeing what E3 offers up next week as for now; we can wait and see what the games have to offer.

Which one are you looking forward to the most and why?
