Sea World Orlando

Despite the recent controversy revolving around the SeaWorld, it still holds a special place in my heart. I have been to SeaWorld San Diego several times, so when I had the opportunity to visit SeaWorld Orlando, I was really excited.

SeaWorld Orlando has all of the mainstays that I remember from the San Diego Park: The Pets Rule show (known as Pets Ahoy in Orlando), Journey to Atlantis, Manta, Wild Arctic, Shamu’s Happy Harbor, Dolphin Cove, Shark Encounter and Turtle Trek. If you have been to the San Diego park, and are trying to experience something new, you may save these for later in the day.

There are a few other rides and attractions here as well, including the Kraken. Kraken is a monster rollercoaster like no other. Consistently ranked as one of the world’s top coasters by ride enthusiasts, and understandably so, this fast, floorless coaster rises above the horizon, daring you to take it on. With high lifts and long drops, you will be screaming for more. The thrill ride is definitely worth the visit, but not for the weak of stomach.

Once Ocean is a new killer whale show that opened on April 11, 2014. My trip occurred prior to this, but they were still allowing spectators in to view a “live rehearsal”. In One Ocean, majestic killer whales join you on a journey to a world that drenches your senses in vivid colors, vitality, and the global rhythms of the ocean. Dancing fountains set the stage as you connect with thrilling sea creatures, feel the energy and spirit of life underneath the sea, and realize that we are all part of one world, one ocean. It always amazes me how well these shows are planned and performed.

The final attraction I visited is geared toward the young, but can be fun for all ages. Clyde and Seamore tossed aside the script for their high-seas adventure, Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island, and instead take the stage using the one language we all share – fun! This sensational tale of lost loot, pirate plunder and misadventure is full of hilarious hijinks.

Don’t always believe what you see in documentaries. Michael Moore and Morgan Spurlock have proven that statement to be good advice. If you’re looking for a fun day, and possibly a way to cool off, SeaWorld is place to visit. It is also a good break from some of the other theme parks you are visiting in Florida, and with the opportunity to pet manta rays and dolphins, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you shouldn’t miss.
