PopScope

Covering conventions, vacation spots, Red Carpet events, and special events are common events for my staff and I. Being 6’4 I have an advantage over others as I am able to see over crowds, but when dealing with crowds the size of the ones at the San Diego Comic Con, E3, and PAX Prime we can use all the help that we can get.

Thankfully Popscope have come up with an affordable and very practical device that allows users to take their photography to a new level quickly and easily.

The device connects to a smartphone or tablet via a clamp which does not damage your device yet holds it in a secure fashion.

The metallic base acts as a tripod if needed and the telescoping neck allows for users to take photographs from an elevated position.

There are aps that can help with the picture taking, but we opted to simply put our devices on a timer. This worked well when we wanted to take pictures of the two of us overlooking a beach as we simply extended the device, set the timer, and waited for our pictures to be taken. The quality of the shots and the angle were perfect and allowed us to capture the memories perfectly.

Convention use was a bit trickier as we had to essential let the device shoot pictures randomly and hope that what it captured was what we needed.

When our subjects were stationary or posing it worked well, but in a crowded area with lots of activity it did take some work.

After some practice it did become easier and I look forward to seeing how the device handles our upcoming events.

Our first unit failed in a few days as the clamp was not very sturdy, but an updated design was sent to us at a later date and this one has been more sturdy and dependable in our use of it to date.

The device is compact and easy to carry as it compacts to a size that is very portable and it also allows photos to be taken up to a 90 degree angle.

The device also comes in a range of colors and is a perfect companion for those on the go.

We highly recommend this device as it has the potential if it remains durable to be a valuable tool in our future event coverage.
