Talking SEED: Blood Valley With Marcel Walz

Marcel Walz’s Seed sequel Blood Valley : Seed’s Revenge finally makes it to US shores next month. We spoke to the talented filmmaker about stepping in for Uwe Boll on the fright flick.

How did you get the gig?

The idea of Seed 2 came to me during a vacation in the USA and I wrote together what came to my mind. Thereafter, I talked to Uwe about my ideas, and as Uwe and I already knew each other for a couple of years, he agreed to my suggestion of making the sequel to his movie and directing it.

What was it that won you job? What impressed Uwe Boll?

As mentioned above, Uwe and I knew each other for a couple of years and when I came to him with my ideas about SEED 2 he was really impressed, shooting in the Nevada desert was the perfect location for this story and he knew that the cast we chose was perfect.

How much say did you get in casting?

Mid 2012 when we started with the script for Seed 2, I already had some actors in my mind, like Caroline Williams and Christa Campbell. The producers and I discussed about what their opinion were and we all together definitely found a great cast.

Did Uwe have much input into the film or did he let you do your thing?

When the script was finished in the end of 2012, Uwe and I went through it and discussed what would be best for the movie. But Uwe just gave ideas and he had great ones, but in the end it was my decision how the movie and the story went.

The film has been getting a lot of press, how important a marketing tool is the internet with a film like this?

Marketing and press is always important for any kind of production, how will people get to know your movie otherwise? Plus, as the internet is the easiest way to communicate and of course the fastest, millions of people are just a “click” away.

The film is being released on all mediums; what is your opinion of VOD vs DVD – do you believe online streaming is the way of the future?

VOD is definitely the future of movies, of course there is still a market for DVD, because presently, most people still want to have the DVD with it’s cover at home. But VOD is the easiest way of getting a movie to your TV at home without leaving it. It’s like online shopping but without waiting to get it delivered.

Any talk of a Seed 3, yet?

Of course we are thinking and talking of Seed 3. Presently, we already have an idea of how to continue with the story, but it is too early to talk about it right now, as SEED 2 has just been released
