Ragnarok

Greetings & Salutations Fellow Movie Viewers!

Despite the summer heat wave, your friendly neighborhood freelance photographer is alive
and well. More than that, we have a selection today that would be perfect for those days
where you just want to escape the summer heat and find a dark air-condtioned room, some
ice cold beverages, and a few films to bid the time until the sun goes down.

‘Ragnarok’ is a dramatic action thriller from Magnolia Pictures and tells the tale of
Norwegian archeologist Sigurd Svendsen. A widowed scientist, whom despite the death of
his wife and research partner, continues with his research convinced that the Oseberg
Viking ship holds the key to uncovering the truth about Ragnarok .. in Norse mythology
.. the end of the world. Along with his children, two collegues, and a questionable guide,
Sigurd sets into motion an expedition into the desolte region on the border between
Russia and Norway dubbed ‘No Mans Land” … once the northern most point of the cold war’s
‘iron curtain’. At first, they find little more than grand landscapes and remnents of the
Soviet Union’s boarder forces but as they begin to excavate for relics and study their
ultimate destination it becomes clear that the Vikings may have discovered something before
them many of centuries prior that perhaps should have been left undiscovered.

Starring Pål Sverre Hagen, Nicolai Cleve Broch, Bjørn Sundquist, Sofia Helin,
Maria Annette Tanderød Berglyd, Vera Rudi, and directed by Mikkel Brænne Sandemose it’s
an awesome movie for those hot summer days where your just trying to stay out of the heat.
It’s my first Norwegian movie and I had to admit, without the subtitles .. I would’ve been
lost without a map. The movie is a bit long (tops of around 115 minutes) and some of the
special effects look a bit ‘iffy’ but beyond that, I enjoyed it. Definitely NOT for the
kids with a PG-13 rating. You’d find the movie in the same section of the video store
that the ‘Indiana Jones’ movies would be in if video stores still exisited. Most definitely
worth watching once. Personal rating … i’d give it 3 out of 5 stars. What kind of
killed it for me was the long duration of the film … i’ve noticed that you start to
lose folks interest after 90 minutes. Still though, it’s worth seeing once … or a few
times for that matter. My advice? Order it online … grab some snacks and an ice cold
lemonade and give ‘Ragnarok’ a go!
