Our 6 Best Video Game Easter Eggs

Says Easter is upon us, I thought it would be fun to write about something that I have previously never written about, Easter Eggs. No I am not talking about the hard boiled ones that we spent hours with dyes and wire dippers getting ready for the big day, and I also not talking about the ones comprises of sugar, chocolate, and marshmallow, types that will send kids climbing up the walls for weeks.

Instead, I am talking about the proverbial gaming Easter Egg.

For those who are not familiar with this term it refers to a secret or bonus area of a game. The idea is that designers like to liven things up a bit by providing hidden content and it is up to the players to search all kinds of dark and remote areas of a game to find them.

With that being said, I decided to do my Easter posting this year on my favorite Easter Eggs of the past couple of years.

Shadow Warrior.

Aside from a lack of multiplay, there was a lot to like about this reboot of the 3D Realms classic. Yes it could be frustratingly hard at times but as anyone who has ever taken a swim in the ponds will tell you, there can be some real surprises.

One in question involves a secret cave just under a waterfall. When a player enters the cave, the graphics revert back to the pixel heavy look of the original game and they are rewarded with a room that is a spot on recreation from the original game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Between the constant action and players chiming in there is often not a lot of time to go exploring in the game. However in the Multiplay map Prison Break, you can come upon Bigfoot himself.

It does take a bit of work, as a log fall and taking down a tree help but when crossing the bridge by the logging camp, players who stand near the edge can see the infamous Bigfoot himself walking around on the isolated peninsula on the other side. You can even shoot him if your so inclined.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Not only is the game highly enjoyable and a must own for South Park fans, but the abundance of side quests and other treats makes for a plethora of Easter Eggs.

From the full cd of Cartman’s Christian Rock album to Tom Cruise hiding in a closet, the game is filled with references not only to the show but also to things ranging from Game of Thrones to The Elder Scrolls.

It would be impossible to pick just one so my advice, see how many you can find as trust me, there are several.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

While I admit the game had many issues, I did not hate on it as much as others did. While I was disappointed with the game I at least played it through until the end and got some entertainment out of it.

That being said, there are some great bonus moments in game.

The second mission of the game has a hidden room which can be opened via keypad where players can come face to err face hugger with eggs decorated for Easter.

There is also a great donut moment on level 7 where shooting a box of the treats releases a giant donut right into the lava.

TitanFall

You would think that a multiplay only game would not be the place to find Easter Eggs. That being said, we have confirmed that Nessie herself, the Loch Ness Monster can be found in doll form in game.

In the map Demeter, and reported in two others, players can wall jump up to a pipe section and find a small, stuffed animal version of Nessie waiting for them.

Borderlands 2

A game as large as Borderlands 2 has more than a few Easter Eggs. From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Donkey Kong and Minecraft, the game has plenty to offer fans looking or bonus content. However I love the Moxxi’s Pizza Box that when scanned by your Smart Phone has a quote from Captain Picard himself.
