Cuban Fury

by Jeremiah Scott

Cuban Fury is by far THE best British Salsa dancing comedy movie I’ve ever seen…

The Basics

The film follows a former pseudo dance star 25 years after leaving the salsa world behind him, who is attempting to overcome his own insecurities, win the heart of a girl WAY out of his league and reconnecting with a world he once loved.

The Acting

If you love Nick Frost in his classic comedies like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you will love him just as much as a former child dance star. He’s very likable, believable and most importantly really funny.

Rashida Jones is perfect as the love interest. She is adorable in this film and provides the perfect “girl next door” type who every guy wants to be with.

Chris O’Dowd plays a great antagonist as he delivers great digging punch lines that make you laugh and hate him at the same time. His character gets annoying quickly, but you are supposed to hate him by the end, so it works perfectly.

The Movie

The pacing is quick (98 minutes) but gives you enough character development to laugh, sympathize and root for the good guys making it a fantastic date movie. Throw in a great cameo (if you blink you will miss it), a solid performance in a supporting role by Ian McShane, and a hilarious dance fight scene you will never forget and you have a very enjoyable movie that is well worth the price of admission.

The Verdict

This movie is really charming without trying too hard. It just feels like a great date movie that guys should keep in their Blu-ray collection for when you have a girl over and just want to sit on the couch and maybe getting those mushy love vibes flowing while still having a really good laugh.

4 out of 5 stars loved it.
