Wizard World Comicon Portland out did itself this year. Some of the highlights
include the wall of smoke projection screen, the laughs coming from the William
Shatner panel, and the legendary horror guests.
The best place to see pure happiness is to watch the people exiting the Robert Englund photo ops with giant smiles, jumping up and down, and even a few joyful squeals. After seeing his highly
interactive fan photos you will understand why! He is best known for his role as
Freddy Krueger, though in his panel you hear him profess his love for theatre
acting. Another horror legend Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira Mistress of the Dark
also made an appearance and did photo ops in full Elvira costume. Her panel was
fascinating as she spoke about partying with Elvis Presley in Las Vegas when she was
young and divulging her favorite scary movies.
The cosplayers were out in full force
with high quality costumes including The Muppets, Skeksi (The Dark Crystal), Krampus
(Grimm) and the giant Totoro cosplay appeared again this year donning a Batman
costume. You could even stop by “Heroes of Cosplay” star Yaya Han’s booth to get
some costuming tips and a pair of kitty ears.
Don’t forget to stop and get yourpicture taken with the “Back to the Future” DeLorean or interact with the R2-D2’s rolling around on the floor. It was also a rare treat to attend the Peter Mayhew’s
aka Chewie (Star Wars) panel and hear amazing stories about the filming of the
movies. If you were feeling lonely there was also sci-fi speed dating or bachelor
style dating games in front of an audience- either way you were probably going to
get an awesome geeky date to the con after party! There were also zombies a plenty
and “Walking Dead” stars everywhere you looked. No matter your fandom, obsession, or
curiosity- Wizard World Comicon had you covered this year. Here in Portland we are
looking forward to enjoying this con for years to come.
