Are Gamers Already Bored With Waiting For Next Generation Games

As the excitement, name calling, and speculation surrounding the new consoles from Microsoft and Sony have faded a bit, many gamers like myself wait patiently for the next batch of games to come out.

Both Sony and Microsoft have some great looking content on the horizon but I have to wonder if many other gamers are finding themselves bored with the current offerings for both systems and are desperate for something new.

I use  our console for exclusives only so after playing through Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall and other titles for the system, I find myself becoming restless and that for some level, the initial thrill over owning a PS 4 has faded.

Now I expect this to be a short term phase much like a case of the Winter Blahs as Infamous: Second Son is coming soon and after playing it for a bit at the 2014 C.E.S. last week I know this is one that I will be spending a lot of time with.

Sadly though the biggest hurdle for early adopters of any new piece of gaming hardware is often technical issues and a lack of games and supporting hardware.  I look forward to firing up my PS 4 camera and doing more streaming of content and such but the camera I was given for Christmas is still on backorder even though we were promised a Jan 6th ship date.

I think for me the biggest reason for my impatience is the Wii U as after purchasing a Deluxe Unit at launch I found that ZombieU and Super Mario Bros were not enough to sustain my interest in the console and I am waiting to see if the new Donkey Kong and Mario Kart offerings will help remedy this later this year.

Many people I spoke with who have thrown their hats into the Xbox One camp have cited that they worked through Ryse fast and aside from Dead Rising 3, spend most of their time with Call of Duty: Ghosts while they wait for future titles to arrive.

It is said that patience is a virtue and that good things come to those who wait, but in a society based on instant gratification I find that I am becoming impatient with my new systems and that the wait for new product Is causing me to turn on my new systems less and less.

Hopefully this is a trend we will soon all look back on and laugh about as our biggest complaint will be that there are to many games and not enough time and money.

Until then, we can watch, wait, and hope for a better tomorrow and keep the faith during the Dog Days of console release hangover.
