Now that we have turned the page on the calendar to to 2014, it is time for us to announce our Game of the Year winners for 2013. The year had plenty of releases for us to select from, some good, some bad, and several in the middle. So while we have had our fill of Best of, Worst of, and Biggest Disappointment lists we do believe that it is important to recognize the absolute best the industry had to offer.
With that in mind, my staff and I went over the games of 2013 and are pleased to announce our winners.
Best Shooter
Bioshock Infinite
2K Games
Often the third game in a series can suffer from dimensioned returns and repetition but that was far from the case with this one. A new setting, new characters, and plenty of action combined with a gripping story made this game a winner all around.
Best Fighting Game
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Warner Bros
Fighting games have never been that appealing to me aside from the most recent Mortal Kombat game, they seem to be simply more of the same. That being said, from the entertaining story, the variety of characters as well as the multiplay and challenge modes this game is solid.
Best Action Game
Grand Theft Auto 5
Rockstar
Putting aside the controversies which always follow the game, the story, diversity, and sheer scope of the game make this impossible not to recognize and reward. The game is not only the best entry into the series to date but is simply a triumph.
Game of the Year
The Last of Us.
Naughty Dog
I know that everyone has listed this game so it is not as big of a surprise but when the game was as good as it is you cannot leave it off the list. Gripping story, characters that evolve and that you care about, as well as action and scares abound in what is as close to the perfect game as you can get.
Honorable mentions.
Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag Ubisoft
Splinter Cell: Blacklist Ubisoft
World of Tanks WarGaming.Net
Call of Duty: Ghosts Activision
