The Walking Dead: Season 4 Preview/New York Comic Con Panel

By Chris Gamble

One of the most talked about, and all around best shows, AMC’s The Walking Dead, is back with its season premiere made on Sunday. However, on Saturday, during New York Comic Con, some really big news was announced and even bigger news was hinted at during the panel that featured Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Chad L. Coleman (Tyrese), Steven Yuen (Glen), Lauren Choen (Maggie), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Robert Kirkman (Creator), Scott M. Gimple (writer), Greg Nicotero (executive producer), Gale Anne Hurd (executive producer) and an in-character appearance from a new cast member, Michael Cudlitz who will be playing Sgt. Abraham Ford.

Cudlitz made his appearance from the audience as he aggressively suggested the show finally introduce the fan-favorite Sgt. Ford from the comic book. Cudlitz was then introduced as the new character and the style in which he was announced showed that he might bring some fire and antagonism to the show in a sort of lighter-hearted Merle character.

Josh McDermitt was also announced as the former science teacher named Eugene. The new characters promise to bring new twists and turns, some of which might not be popular with fans it seems. Lincoln hinted at such a twist saying only they’ll “get in so much trouble” for the episode and that when he first read it he was stunned and had to immediately get other reactions from his cast mates. Could a popular cast member be killed off? Perhaps a few cast members go their own way thereby bringing life to the announced spin-off, Spread the Dead which should debut in 2015.

At the end of the panel, a clip was shown that featured Daryl, Michonne, Bob Stookey (played by Lawrence Gilliard, Jr.) and Tyrese are traveling down a road when they hear a voice on the radio. In classic The Walking Dead fashion, this immediately leads to trouble as Daryl ends up driving the car into a massive horde of zombies. The clip ended with Daryl backing the car up and running over so many zombies that the car actually elevates off the ground and has trouble getting traction under the gooey mess of rotting human flesh under the tires. With Season 4 now underway fans won’t have to wait long to see who comes and who goes.
