Hannah Marks Talks Necessary Roughness and Spider-Man
Recently I got to speak with Hannah Marks about her role on Necessary Roughness. Hannah will also be appearing in the 2012 version of “Spider-Man” with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. I want to thank Hannah for taking the time to speak with us.
What interested you the most about working on this project and how did you become involved with it?
I loved that “Necessary Roughness” was based on a true story and that I got a chance to talk with Dr. Donna about this fascinating time in her life. Callie Thorne also got me extremely interested in being a part of the series, because I am such a fan of hers. She has so much talent and I am so lucky to get to play her daughter.
Where did you draw inspiration from for the character you are portraying?
Most of my inspiration comes from remembering what I went through about 3-4 years ago when I had crazy teenage hormones. I remember butting heads with my mom just like Lindsay does on “Necessary Roughness”. Our fights are much more comedic on our show though!
What can you tell us about the show, any secrets or behind the scenes stories that you can share with us?
We just filmed a scene the other day with the whole family where we ordered “Mu-shu” we had fun just improvising with the word and throwing Chinese food all over the place. “Mu-shu o’clock!”
What do you look for from a director to help you give your best performance?
Honestly, it’s just helpful to hear anything they have to say, because while you are filming a scene you can’t see yourself or how you are coming off. So it’s good to have a second pair of eyes. I really like when a director keeps giving me new ideas to experiment with and really pushes me to do my best.
When you consider a script or a potential TV or film project, what elements tend to draw you in and make you want to work on that film?
Great writing is always a huge plus. I love to work on any project that has clever dialogue or a unique pace to it. Any kind of writing that is fresh, exciting, or challenging is what I look for and wish to be a part of. I’d like to be a part of something that really pushes the limits or breaks some boundaries and really makes you think.
What inspired you to choose a career in film/TV; do you have any advice for people who are looking to get into the television and or film industry and what was your big break?
I always wanted to have a career in film/TV because of my love for it. I am the biggest fan of TV shows and movies. I go to movie theatres every week and watch at least 10 different shows at any given time. I have a huge respect for the process that goes into making them, as well. I would love to eventually be behind the camera, whether it’s in producing, directing, or writing.
Who is your favorite actor or actress who inspires you the most and why?
Angelina Jolie is definitely my idol. She is such a strong woman and powerful actress. She has given so much of her time and money to charity and is one of the hardest-working women of our time. She is about to make her directorial debut, which inspires me so much to work hard for many different careers. I can watch her movies over and over again.
Can you tell us about any future projects that you are currently are working on that we can look forward to seeing you in?
I am currently in Atlanta filming our show “Necessary Roughness” but before I left I filmed the role of “Missy Kallenback” in the new “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot. It comes to theatres in 2012.
What were some memorable moments from filming?
My favorite times filming was when I got to work with one of my best friends. Jillian Rose Reed and I both did roles on “Weeds” at the same time. It was the best getting to joke around on set of one of my favorite shows.
What do you like to do in your free time?
My boyfriend and I started a high-end T-shirt line called “Mustrd Apparel”. We sell our shirts on and on the stores listed on the website! I also like to take pictures and make short films.
