Radisson Hotel Portland Airport

During a stay at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Portland, I got the chance to see the hotel in both a good and bad light.

As we were driving to the hotel, I called the front desk number to see which exit I should take from the highway. I called and the phone rang repeatedly until it disconnected. This happened 4 times and I was finally able to get through on the fifth try. I was then told that I had driven past the exit and would have to turn around and drive back. This little detour added 30 minutes to our trip and when I asked why the phone was not answered I was told that the phone never rang as the desk clerk had been there the entire time.

Checking in was easy and the staff printed out the directions to my speaking engagement when I asked for the best way to get to downtown Portland from the hotel. I was eager to avoid having to backtrack on 205 to get to I-5 S.

The room had a great view of a lake and I enjoyed seeing the ducks on the water during my stay. The hotel and room were very clean and inviting and the bed was very comfy. We usually sleep on a memory foam bed and the Radisson offered a Select Comfort bed. It took some adjusting but it was nice to be able to raise or lower the firmness on my side of the bed while my wife adjusted her level to a setting appropriate for her.

The room also had a couch and desk and in room tea, coffee, and water available for guests. There was also a full room service available as well as the opportunity to rent a Bowflex to exercise in the room for quests who would rather not use the public gym or the pool.

The cable in the room was good, and included premium stations as well as a variety of games and new movies on demand for an additional fee.

Sadly I did not get to enjoy this feature very much as early Sunday morning the cable went out and remained out for the duration of our stay. I usually get a jump start on my workload by watching the news and then enjoy the Football pregame shows, but was offered only static. When I mentioned this upon checking out I was told that a repair person had been called and they are not sure why it happened. While I understand this sort of thing can happen, I can tell you that being in a hotel room in the early hours with no entertainment can be difficult.

The bathroom had a large shower as well as a well sized sink and counter area as well as a hair dryer. The room also had an ironing board and ample closet and drawer space. The twist here was that the sink was in the main room by the door to the hotel and the shower and toilet were in a separate bathroom.

The hotel does offer free internet and connection was a snap which was a welcome feature as the last thing you want to do is jump through hoops or pay a high daily rate for net access.

The hotel offers a indoor pool and hot tub, as well as a exercise room and lounge area for those who wish to soak in some sun and get a work out in.

The hotel offers a dining area with breakfast bar and full menu, as well as room service and a bar.
Check out was very quick, and we were soon on our way home.

The hotel was an nice place, I only wish the issues that I mentioned before had not happened or been addressed by the staff as they marred what was otherwise a nice stay.
